Thought of the Day

Last week I decided to embark on an experiment.  For a while I have felt that my taste in music has been a bit on the down-side.  People often hear me say, "boy, I really need to listen to more classical music," or, "I really should read more books," or, "I really need to spend more time outside."  To quote Alice from Alice in Wonderland, "I often give myself really good advice, but I seldom ever follow it."  What I now am determined to do, is to listen to nothing but classical music for a month and see what that does to my brain.

There are lots of people out there who say that music doesn't influence them at all.  My opinion is (and this is just an opinion) that music does affect people.  My mind feels more sharp and alert after listening to Mozart or Bach, whereas I feel a little run down after an entire hour of enjoying pop music.  I am not taking down pop music in at all--I have a soft spot for Broadway musicals--or saying that people should listen to nothing but classical music.  I just think that we should try to listen to the old classics more often.  I, myself, haven't done very well in this, but I want to make a change.

I really think that it is merely a balance--a mixed diet.  If you feed yourself nothing but bread and butter, you will eventually loose all of your taste buds and become--well--fat!  The same applies to music and lots of other things.  Enjoy your pop music, but please don't forget joy that comes from listening to classical music.

Now please excuse me while I go and listen to some Owl City. *wink*
