About Introverts

When I go to write, I pour myself a glass of orange juice, sit myself down at the circular table in the kitchen, pull out a pen and paper and just start scribbling down the first thing that comes to my head.  This is my way of taking all my stress and anxiety and just letting it flow out through my fingertips and onto my paper. Can I tell you a secret? I am an introvert.

Naturally, I am a quiet person.  Don't take me wrong, I love extroverted people and will do anything for my friends.  When I tell people that I am an introvert, they say, "No you're not!  You seem just fine to me."  It is sad, because they seem to think of introversion as something bad, like it's a illness or something else unpleasant.  The truth is, that being quiet is something that I love an embrace.

Some of the most famous people in history were introverts and accomplished wonderful things.  George Washington, our first president, was a very quite and soft-spoken man.  He not only governed a country, but lead an army for several years.  When the time came, he did what he could for his country, even though he wasn't the most outgoing of people.

Although introverts are amazing, we have weaknesses.  Sometimes the constant quite and hours of being in my own mind makes it hard for me to interact with others.  Having good communication with other people is something that I constantly have to work at.  Within the vast web of my mind, I often become confused and distressed.  This is a definite weakness, being so much inside my own head, that daily I have to deal with.

The strengths of an introvert lie within the mind.  It may seem that there isn't much going on with us "quiet" people, but on the inside there is a world of thoughts, ideas and creativity that's just waiting to burst forth. These thoughts and ideas come out in different ways: in our daily interaction with people, with arts, with crafts, in reading, and in writing.

I love extroverted people.  Some of my best friends are extroverts and are absolute darlings.  Being around outgoing people makes me happy, and at the same time, being with those who are introverted makes me feel more confident in myself. Honestly, I don't know how one type could survive without the other. I am so glad there are these two kinds of people: introverts and extroverts.

Now you know my secret. I'm an introvert. :)
